Best places to go for Valentine’s Day in the US

Even if you plan on keeping things domestic for the holiday weekend, your options are vast and varied. From skiing in the Rocky Mountains to museum-hopping in Washington, D.C., there’s a fun-filled adventure for every type of traveler.

Park City, Utah

Thinking about hitting the slopes on Valentine’s Day? You’ll find endless runs, gorgeous mountain vistas, and a dynamic après-ski scene in Park City, Utah. While there are two ski resorts in town, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, the former is decidedly more luxurious.

The skiers-only destination is known for its long groomers and an impressive selection of ski-in, ski-out accommodations. Many of which come with the coveted 5-star descriptor. The St. Regis Deer Valley is a particularly excellent choice for couples.

I kicked off the 2025 ski season at its slope-side location and can confirm the resort has everything you need for a memorable trip. This includes an on-site rental shop, picture-perfect outdoor fire pits, and a spa outfitted with a couple’s suite.

Miami, Florida

Miami is always a good idea – even in the middle of February. South Florida temperatures typically reach the mid to high 70s during the day, so you’re almost guaranteed decent pool or beach weather.

For a Valentine’s Day trip that’s elevated in every sense of the word, book one of the recently renovated Penthouse and Presidental suites at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami.

The suites overlook stunning Biscayne Bay, so you’ll wake up each morning with unbeatable views; slow starts and room service breakfast are highly encouraged. Spend the rest of the day at the two-acre rooftop pool terrace, getting in as much lounging and vitamin D as possible.

Savannah, Georgia

There’s perhaps no city more romantic than Savannah, Georgia, home to idyllic squares, majestic live oak trees, carriage rides, and architecture that’s best admired by foot. It’s also a choice destination for couples who appreciate a heavy dose of history during their travels.

Pre-book tickets for a riverboat cruise or a graveyard tour – both of which will provide you with additional context on Savannah’s past – then snag a dinner reservation for The Olde Pink House, a building with roots dating back to the late 1700s.

For accommodations, you can’t go wrong with Perry Lane Hotel; the 167-room property is within walking distance of most of Savannah’s iconic sites and attractions, including Forsyth Park, the Savannah Riverwalk, and the shops along Broughton Street.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Fat Tuesday might not be until early March this year, but there are still plenty of reasons to make New Orleans your Valentine’s Day destination. Along with all of the festivities associated with Carnival season, the Big Easy is always prepared to keep visitors entertained with live jazz performances at Preservation Hall and Tipitina’s, riverboat tours, and an extensive number of only-in-New-Orleans type of experiences.

For dinner, make reservations at the newly opened restaurant The Bell, “an easygoing neighborhood joint with an English accent” from Charleston-based restauranteur Brooks Reitz. Unique, personality-filled hotels are also prominent throughout the city, and I’d suggest checking out boutique properties like Hotel Peter & Paul, or Hotel Saint Vincent.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

A skier descending a challenging slope with a treed terrain at the bottom.

Valentine’s Day in Jackson Hole, Wyoming could involve sleigh rides through the National Elk Refuge, alpine skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, or cheers-ing over Wyoming Whiskey cocktails at the Silver Dollar Bar in the historic Wort Hotel right off of Town Square.

Alternatively, you and your travel companion can break out the cross-country skis or snowshoes and explore nearby Grand Teton National Park; if you’d rather go with a guide, Jackson Hole Eco Tour Adventures offers half-day excursions with highly trained naturalists will ensure you stay on track – and maybe even spot some wildlife along the way.

You have two great hotel options: Go all out, booking a slopeside suite at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, or plan the trip with a more budget-conscious mindset. If you fall into the latter category, The Virginian Lodge may be more up your alley; the retro-inspired property even has an outdoor hot tub you can enjoy on an extra-cold February night.

Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. might not be the first place you think when considering places to go for Valentine’s Day, but the capital has more than its fair share of romantic date spots. Start your weekend with a long walk down the National Mall, stopping at the likes of the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and Constitution Gardens.

From there, warm up with a hot toddy at Le Diplomate, take a turn around the ice rink at The Wharf, then call it a night and order a room service dinner at Riggs Washington DC.

Fort Worth, Texas

Grab your cowboy hat and boots; a Valentine’s Day getaway to Fort Worth, Texas is now on your radar. Just under 30 minutes from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Cowtown has solidified its status as a must-go destination in recent years thanks to the revitalization of the historic Stockyards and several major hotel openings.

Hotel Drover, an Autograph Collection hotel, is the perfect Valentine’s Day stop for those who want to lean into the Texan vibe. Following cocktails around the outdoor fire pits, saddle up for “re-imagined ranch classics” at 97 West Kitchen and Bar.

Charlottesville, Virginia

Countryside meets charming mountain town in Charlottesville, a destination smackdab in the middle of Virginia’s wine country. Upon arrival, check in to The Clifton, a boutique hotel that embraces Southern hospitality and the imitable magic that comes with its deeply rooted history.

Before an intimate dinner at its on-site eatery 1799 Restaurant – complete with an expertly curated wine list – stretch your legs along the Saunders-Monticello Trail, stop for selfies at the overlooks on the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, and sip on a tasting flight at King Family Vineyards.

Healdsburg, California

The 15 best places to go for Valentine’s Day 2025

Speaking of wine, oenophiles planning an unforgettable Valentine’s Day trip should consider Healdsburg. The Northern California town is filled with charm, delightful inns, and endless ways to the dozens of nearby vineyards. Before you book your airfare, though, make sure to confirm your accommodations.

Hotel Healdsburg is located right in the downtown area, just steps from a number of tasting rooms. Not sure where to start your wine journey? LIOCO, a brand helmed by Matt and Sara Licklider, offers tasting room experiences ranging from $30 to $60 – and it’s just a three-minute walk from the boutique hotel.

Best places to go for Valentine’s Day outside the US

A European adventure may not be doable over a long weekend, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go somewhere international. Mexico, Canada, or an island in the Caribbean provide the perfect change of scenery (and don’t require a long-haul flight).

Beachfront lounge chairs and poolside cocktails await at Montage Los Cabos, one of the best resort hotels in Cabo. While many factors make it the ultimate Valentine’s Day destination – including a 40,000-square-foot spa, an indoor-outdoor restaurant with views of the Sea of Cortez, and suites with private plunge pools – its enviable location on Santa Maria Bay is the most noteworthy. Hotel guests can grab snorkeling equipment to explore the bay’s coral reefs, take a kayak out on the water, or spend the entire day lounging on a beach bed.

Saint Barthélemy

A relaxing spot on the beach with umbrellas and loungers shaded by coconut trees and a wide view of the sea.

Thanks to connections from St. Martin’s Princess Juliana International Airport and Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Saint Barthélemy is relatively easy to get to from the US. Hop aboard a Tradewind charter flight, and you’ll be relaxing by the island’s crystal-clear blue waters in no time. While St. Barts is often associated with glitzy parties and beach clubs, it also has hotels that mix entertainment with unparalleled relaxation.

Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa, for example, offers a semi-private beach experience by the clear, shallow waters of Grand Cul de Sac. Here, you can have a Valentine’s Day that starts with a jet ski tour around the island and ends with a beachfront dinner accented by an unbelievable sunset.

Optional: Book the “Romantic Rendez-Vous” treatment at Le Spa, where you’ll both be pampered with Champagne, time in the vitality baths, and a restorative massage.

Saint Martin

Another tropical destination that’s easily accessible from the US is Saint Martin. Split into French Saint-Martin in the north and Dutch Sint Maarten in the south, the island is filled with interests and activities for every type of traveler.

If you’d prefer to spend February 14 by the water, book a room at La Samanna, A Belmond Hotel, St Martin, where its pink and white beach chairs and umbrellas work perfectly for a Valentine’s Day couple’s photo.

Anyone who wants to bolster their itinerary with more activities can choose to hike Pic Paradis, the island’s highest peak, or try their hand at diving or snorkeling around the Caribbean blue waters.

Nassau, Bahamas

When I think of romantic trip ideas, The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort is at the top of my list. Located on Paradise Island, which is connected to Nassau by bridge, the hotel is convenient to reach, yet seemingly miles away from all of life’s little stresses.

With an adults-only pool, a five-mile stretch of white sandy beaches, and a private spa villa for a couple’s treatment, it’s inherently designed for anyone celebrating Valentine’s Day, or any other special occasion.

While there, don’t forget to try a signature martini from the resort’s Martini Bar and Lounge; the drinks menu nods to the 2006 James Bond movie Casino Royale, which was partially filmed on-site.

Bermuda

February might not bring beach weather to Bermuda, but don’t let that stop you from booking a Valentine’s Day trip to the island. As it’s off-season, hotel rooms will be significantly cheaper – and you can save your money for island meals and activities.

Book a suite at Rosewood Bermuda and ask the concierge to help you organize a tee time at Tucker’s Point Golf Course. After you wrap up the last hole, enjoy a Couple’s Spa Suite Experience, inclusive of a tandem massage and facial. It doesn’t get more relaxing than that.

Banff, Alberta, Canada

If rugged mountains are more your speed, get your passports ready for a trip up north – specifically, to Banff. The resort town is in the Canadian province of Alberta and is known for its incredible national parks, winter activities, and hot springs.

Even if you’re not big skiers, you can still take in the breathtaking mountain beauty by hiking, snowshoeing, or dog sledding. For an ultra-luxe Valentine’s Day, stay overnight at the Fairmont Banff Springs, where you’ll have your pick of dinner spots. The hotel has plenty of bars and restaurants where you can cozy up after a day in the snow.

Fun Valentine’s Day date ideas while traveling

Looking for something to do together during your trip? Try one (or all) of these…

Enjoy a spa day

Traveling for Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you need a fully packed schedule. Instead, you and your travel companion may prefer to keep things a bit more low-key – and nothing says low-key quite like a spa day. Pre-book a couple’s massage, and plan to get to the spa a little early if you want to take advantage of its other amenities.

Make a reservation for a top-rated restaurant

Step one of nailing a Valentine’s Day trip: Do your research, and make dinner reservations as soon as possible. You don’t want to get to your destination, only to discover that the restaurant you had in mind is fully booked out on the night of February 14.

Try a new activity together

For an extra-memorable Valentine’s Day trip, you’ll want to bake some sort of activity into your plans. Maybe it’s something you’ve both always wanted to try – or maybe it’s a tour that piques both of your interests. No matter what path you embark on, doing something out of the norm together will ensure you’ll get the most out of this special holiday getaway.
